S-BAGS

​Challenge:  
How can we decrease the climate impact from product manufacturing, shipping & packaging and transform current waste streams into valuable resources? 
 
Global Context: 
Behind every fashion product lies a complex supply chain. Each phase within the supply chain contributes to CO2 production. Research shows that 80% of a fashion product’s climate impact comes from the production phase (Mistra Future Fashion, 2019). To this we add transportation and packaging which are also important product carbon footprint contributors.

Solved: The S-bags are the next generation of bags that consumers can download and easily make themselves with pre-owned materials.

Perfectly in tune with the new era of revolution and innovation in Fashion, we have created an entirely downloadable collection of bags. By blending technology and human creativity, with this sustainable innovation, our ambition is to create access, stimulate your imagination and build together a more sustainable fashion industry.

​Tomorrow's fashion is downloadable, be part of the revolution.
​The downloadable concept blends technology and design to avoid any CO2 emissions from manufacturing, transportation and packaging and prevents further textile waste. Moreover, it provides the end user with access to quality fashion items, while promoting sustainable practices. These bags are designed for anyone and everyone that has access to a laser-cutter. The end user can create these bags at a nearby Fablab or a Makerspace, with either sustainable fabrics or pre-owned materials.
Laser-cutting costs around €10 and assembly times range from 10 to 20 minutes, making it a transparent, quick and affordable method of production. The digital-first collection includes the Curved S-bag, the Circular S-bag, the Block S-bag and Messenger S-bag. Patterns and assembly instructions for each design can be downloaded and made from a range of fabrics and no sewing machine is needed. 

Digital design enables a quick local production, by the consumer, with local materials, which saves up a considerable amount of CO2 emissions from manufacturing, transportation and packaging in the fashion industry. Another great value comes from the involvement of the user in the manufacturing process as it creates greater attachment towards the product, extends its active lifespan and thus discourages future production and consumption.

Curved S-BAG

Downloadable SOLVE bag that can be laser-cut in fabrics with a thickness of 1mm and above. Undivided deep interior with one detachable round flat pocket (19 cm diameter). A17” laptop will fit in seamlessly alongside a water bottle and a book. 
These files come with the design file of the bag in AI and DXF format and a sleek PDF with instructions, tips & tricks.
WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT:
You will need 2 pieces of fabric with sizes: 84x66cm & 82x12cm. Find below some recommendation on materials. Assembly time is around 10 minutes and laser cutting costs are cca. €10.
No additional tools are needed for assembly; just enjoy 10 minutes of crafty relaxation and meditation.
Experiment endlessly, you can always update or entirely re-make this design in different fabrics and colors.

Downloadable SOLVE bag that can be laser-cut in fabrics with a thickness of 1mm and above. Undivided deep inside space, big enough to store a laptop, water bottle, book & your raincoat.
These files come with the design file of the bag in AI and DXF format and a sleek PDF with instructions, tips & tricks.

WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT:
You will need 4 pieces of fabric with sizes: 62x52cm – two pieces; 80x30cm; 120x12cm. Find below some recommendation on materials.
Assembly time is around 15-20 minutes and laser-cutting costs are cca. €10.
No additional tools are needed for assembly; just enjoy 20 minutes of crafty relaxation and meditation.

Downloadable SOLVE bag that can be laser-cut in fabrics with a thickness of 1mm and above. Undivided inside space. This is our biggest bag yet, designed for traveling: a 14” laptop, water bottle & a sweater and 2 books fit it perfectly .
These files come with the design file of the bag in AI and DXF format and a sleek PDF with instructions, tips & tricks.

WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT:
You will need 2 pieces of fabric with sizes: 85x46cm & 96x27cm. Find below some recommendation on materials.

How it works


Step 1: Design
You are your own designer. Choose from your pre-owned fabrics. Ideally it’s from something that you no longer use and you
want to put its fabric to good use.

Step 2: Lasercut
​​By now you have chosen a fabric and
found a nearby makerspace/fablab with a laser cutter. Excellent!

Step 3: Construct
after you fold the fabric you thread the joining stripe through the slots. Yes, it’s that easy!

Recommended materials


Below are some suggestions for super sustainable fabrics you could use. Non-woven and recycled synthetic ones work best. For woven fabrics, a small percentage of synthetic fiber is needed as the laser beam fuses laser cut edges on polyester and thereby prevents fraying.

Coming from Cork Oak Trees, the fabric is light, water resistant and no chemical substances are used to process cork into leather.

Lasercut


Any Fablab or Makerspace that is equipped with a lasercutter is fit to create your S-bag. The bags are designed to fit within the most common lasercutter size which is of 90 x 120 cm.

Construct


Relax and meditate for 10-15 minutes while you assemble your bag. You don’t need any additional tools, just your laser cut pieces and the step-by-step assembly instructions that come with your downloaded digital design file.
